My oldest LOVES to read and is asking for lots of books this Christmas. We make trips often to the library because books can be so expensive, but I want to add a few to her collection this Christmas. If your kiddo loves to read or is just getting into chapter books, I have some great suggestions based on what my own child has enjoyed reading. Fostering a love of reading is so important and I hope this post sparks some interest for the kiddos in your life.
I added a few of the obvious for this age range- can’t go wrong with Dog Man or The Babysitters Club (this majorly takes me back, I used to love this series as a kid and I’m sure you probably did too!). Dog Man and The Babysitters Club series are graphic novels and are great for reluctant readers and can aide in reading comprehension. Babysitters Little Sister is an adaptation from The Babysitters Club. The series follows little sister, Karen, on various adventures. The Bad Guys is another popular graphic novel series as well as Raina Telgemeier’s series (seen below #4 “Smile“, the author also has a collection set of 5 graphic novels. My daughter loves these too). The Unicorn Diaries are great for younger readers. These were a great intro to chapter books for my daughter when she was ready for books more challenging than easy readers. Chapters are short and have fun illustrations. Other series my child has loved are Ivy and Bean, Magic Treehouse (fun adventures!), Amelia Bedelia, A to Z Mysteries, and the My Weird School Daze. On the wishlist are Tail of Emily Windsnap series, Rosewood Chronicles series, and Kids’ Encyclopedia– I’m actually super excited to look through this with my daughter!
